Venture incubator Publiq launches to grow concept companies for the public good

Publiq will work in collaboration with leading European innovation consultancy Bax to grow concept companies for the public good.

This month marked the launch of Publiq®, a new venture studio supporting concept companies to scale products and services for the public good. Operating all across Europe, Publiq will work with mission-driven founders to secure funding, identify a go-to-market strategy and provide professional infrastructure to their startup.

Publiq launches with an initial portfolio of four concept companies, covering public mobility, healthy urban planning, social housing and the sharing economy. In the coming years, the four will be joined by a series of new concept companies delivering public good products and services.

Publiq will work closely in collaboration with Bax, a leading European innovation consultancy for the public good. Working with Bax partners and clients, Publiq-supported ventures will identify gaps in Europe’s “innovation readiness” and attempt to fill it with innovation business models and product concepts.

Europe needs new scalable concepts to address its biggest challenges, and it needs companies that can deliver them. Our mission with Publiq is to support founders with the infrastructure and funding they need to make public good ideas a reality.

– Rolf Bastiaanssen, Founder and CEO of Publiq

Publiq will be the place that smart, driven founders will go to make their idea happen. We’re committed to supporting the very best concepts to reach market, and with the support of Bax we’ll have the network and expertise to do it.

– Sebastiaan van Herk, Founder and Director of Publiq

Publiq’s Portfolio

Publiq launches with an established portfolio of four companies:

  • Healthy Cities: Healthy Cities focuses on integrating public health into urban design. They work with local authorities and urban planners to develop tools, like the Healthy Cities Generator, which enables cities to assess and improve environmental factors affecting public health. By analyzing factors like air quality, green space access, and walkability, Healthy Cities helps create environments that foster community well-being, reduced health risks, and improved lifestyle quality. Their goal is to make urban areas conducive to healthier living by embedding health metrics into city planning processes, encouraging policies that prioritize the well-being of residents.

  • Pendel: Pendel offers consulting services and technology for mobility managers across Europe, especially in demand-responsive transport (DRT). They provide data-driven insights and solutions for automating and optimizing transport options tailored to the specific needs of commuters and cities alike. With expertise in autonomous and electric mobility, Pendel supports sustainable, flexible transit systems that adapt to changing demand patterns, reduce congestion, and lower environmental impacts. By aligning their services with emerging mobility trends, Pendel empowers municipalities and companies to implement efficient, scalable, and eco-friendly transportation solutions.

  • Starke: Starke develops intelligent battery storage systems that provide local energy solutions for buildings and infrastructure. Their technology allows building owners to manage and store renewable energy, stabilizing energy costs and generating additional revenue streams. By utilizing advanced storage algorithms and efficient energy management practices, Starke’s battery systems support local grid needs, reduce reliance on non-renewable energy sources, and mitigate energy costs. Starke aims to foster sustainable energy practices, promote cleaner energy use, and offer a reliable and cost-effective power alternative for urban and rural infrastructure alike.

  • Digital Kiosks: Digital Kiosks partners with cities to create and promote sharing stations that foster a collaborative urban sharing economy. Their stations provide hubs for shared services and resources, such as bike-sharing, tool libraries, and small-scale goods exchanges, accessible to local communities. By facilitating easy access to shared resources, Digital Kiosks encourages sustainable consumption, reduces waste, and supports community cohesion. Their initiative aims to make cities more sustainable by rethinking consumption patterns and fostering collaborative use of resources within urban settings, aligning with the broader goals of circular economies and sustainable urban development.
